Preparing to Buy Your First Home....In 3 Years

Almost daily first time home buyers will ask the question, "What do I need to do to be able to buy a home?" Here's the best answer. Set a goal to buy a home in 3 years.

In this world of instant gratification, it's hard to think about planning to do something in the future. However, if you would have started doing these things 3 years ago, you would be mowing your own yard today.

Let's start with the idea of SAVING for a down payment. Don't try to figure how the latest no down payment or low down payment scheme works. Start saving 10% of every paycheck today.

Next, pay off your debt. How do you save 10% and pay down debt you ask? You just do it. Cut back on Starbucks, buy generic laundry detergent, drive a 10 year old car. If you are serious about buying a home, make some sacrifices to achieve your dream.

Clean up your credit. It's this simple, pay every bill on time, pay off credit cards and whatever you do, don't accumulate any additional debt. No, you won't save any money by changing from one credit card to another.

It really is that simple, start today and call me in three years.
