Community Corner

The Flea Market @ Wonder Dog Ranch, Sunday, February 23, 2014, 8am-2pm

Looking for great bargains, unique items, and even some items for dogs?  If so, you are welcome to come to the first-ever Flea Market @ Wonder Dog Ranch on Sunday, February 23, 2014, from 8am to 2pm.  This unique shopping experience is a “not for dogs only” event - we’ll be sharing community information as well as offering wonderful services and items for sale from great vendors, local businesses and organizations:  estate sale treasures, vintage items, artisanal crafts — who knows what you’ll find!  With the sponsorship of the Foothill Gold Line Construction Authority, this Flea Market is designed to bring together our Station Square community and allow customers to learn how to navigate around the closure of Myrtle and Duarte Roads, and to learn more about the Foothill Extension of our Metro Gold Line.

The Flea Market will be easy to find in the parking lot of Wonder Dog Ranch - Dog Day Care & Boarding located at 220 Taylor Street, just two blocks south of Duarte Road on the east side of the 2000 block of S. Myrtle.  From the 210 freeway, just follow the signs around the closure to The Flea Market @ Wonder Dog Ranch.

This is the first Flea Market @ Wonder Dog Ranch, and two more markets are currently scheduled for the fourth Sundays of March and April (March 23 April 27).  The Flea Market may continue periodically after May once the Metro Gold Line tracks are in place and Myrtle Avenue is scheduled to reopen to traffic.

Miller & McCabe, very experienced in producing great community markets, is producing this event with the assistance of Penny & Pig Estate Sales.  More details will be updated periodically on The Flea Market blog at http://wonderdogfleamarket.wordpress.com/.

“We are family-owned and community oriented, so having a community event like this at Wonder Dog Ranch is totally in keeping with our philosophy,” said Ernie Dods, CBO of Wonder Dog Ranch; “and since we don’t ever allow fleas inside our dog day care and boarding facility, we’re thrilled  to have this event in our parking lot.”  However, Mr. Dods would allow an operating Flea Circus which he is hoping to find for future events.

As this is a “not for dogs only” event, look for lots of great things to buy as well as information about our community, but we’ll be sure to have some good pet information too:  you’ll be able to learn about planning for emergencies for your pets; get information from Monrovia’s new animal control service, Pasadena Humane Society; kids can be kept busy reading books to dogs as periodically there will be Therapy Dogs inside the Ranch in the Dog’s Life Living Room just waiting for children to read from a collection of books from Ernie’s Little Library - a Monrovia Reads Little Free Library located on the sidewalk at Wonder Dog Ranch; and there’ll even be special treats as Wonder Dog Ranch celebrates “Dog Biscuit Appreciation Day” an event internationally celebrated on this Sunday.

Customers are welcome to bring dogs, but please be sure to have all pooches under strict control on a short leash.  Dogs will not be allowed inside Wonder Dog Ranch unless they are already enrolled like our regular customers who may be inside, but tours for their people will be offered periodically throughout the day.

A portion of the proceeds of this event will benefit the Foothill Unity Center Pet Food Bank.
