Arnold Schwarzenegger’s suspension of mental health services for special education students, Charter Oak Unified School District moved to pick up the tab of more than $300,000 in service fees. The district, which has lost $20 million in funding over the last four years and is facing layoffs of nine district positions in May, hopes it will be reimbursed following results from several pending lawsuits against the state.

During an undercover investigation by Glendora Youth Against Smoking, 34 percent of tobacco retailers in Glendora sold to minors.
Mountain Lion Spotted in Glendora Neighborhood
- A mountain lion was spotted in a neighborhood north of Sierra Madre Avenue. The described “huge” animal was seen prowling the North Glendora Road Association neighborhood last Sunday evening.
Man Foiled in Attempt to Rob Pizza Hut of Money, Pizza
- A man tried to rob a local Pizza Hut for money and pizza, but left with neither. Officers say the suspect may have tried to rob the restaurant with a fake gun.
State Cash Deferrals Force District to Borrow Up to $5 Million in Loans
- With the state deferring up to 45 percent of cash owed to California schools to the next fiscal year, the Glendora Unified School District is borrowing up to $5 million of Tax and Revenue Anticipation Notes to make up for the shortfall. District officials say even once they pay back the loan in November, they must pay interest of at least $50,000.
Ecstasy Cards Cause Outrage, Confusion
- Cards meant to spread awareness on the dangers of ecstasy use, has instead resulted in controversy. Los Angeles County Supervisor Michael Antonovich said the cards by the Los Angeles Department of Public Health, which give advice on “safe” ecstasy use, are misleading.
