Viewfinder: Career Day at Whitcomb High School

Students learn the ins and outs of vocational colleges and trades.

Students at Whitcomb High School, 350 W. Mauna Loa Ave., had an opportunity to learn about the various options available to them following graduation during Career Day Thursday morning.

Professionals from industries including law enforcement, motorcycling, silk screening and firefighting spoke to students during session. Schools such as Mount San Antonio College, Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandise and American Career College were also at hand to answer student questions.

"Tech education is an area that's kind of going away in schools and a lot of our students are interested in that industry and doing those types of jobs," said Whitcomb principal Becky Summers. "We want our kids to go to college, too. But we also want our kids to know that there are also other options after high school as well."
