VIDEO: Glendora Girl Gets Hawaiian Wish

Sophie Yi, 10, who suffers from a rare neurological disorder, had an emotional reaction to her granted wish.

Sophie Yi, 10, of Glendora didn’t know what was in store for her when she was wheeled into Finkbiner Park’s Bandshell Thursday blindfolded. When she was finally allowed to take her blindfold off, friends and family revealed the news – Yi and her family were going on her dream vacation to Disney’s Aulani Resort in Hawaii.

Yi, who was diagnosed with ataxia, a rare neurological disorder at age 2, broke down in tears of joy when she heard her wish had been granted by the Make a Wish Foundation.

“[The Make a Wish Foundation] is for any children ages 2 to 18 who has any kind of life-threatening disease or has faced a life-threatening disease in the past, “ said Zak Bushey, volunteer for Make a Wish.

The foundation granted nearly 14,000 wishes nationwide in 2012.

Yi and her family will be leaving for their Hawaiian trip in two weeks. Although her first wish was to see Katy Perry in concert (Perry is currently not on tour), the La Fetra Elementary student was thrilled to learn she would be spending her 11th birthday in Hawaii.

“It’s really exciting,” said Yi. “I can’t wait.”
