San Dimas Teacher's Aide Faces Unlawful Sex with Student Charge

Mandy Morales, 30 was free on bail today following her arrest.

A teacher's aide at a San Dimas special-needs school was free on bail today following her arrest for allegedly having a sexual relationship with a teenage student and giving birth to his child.

Mandy Morales, 30, was charged Tuesday with a single count of unlawful sexual intercourse, according to the District Attorney's Office.

Los Angeles County sheriff's Sgt. Peter Hahn said Morales was arrested Wednesday and released late last night on $50,000 bail.

The boy was 16 when the relationship allegedly began in 2011, and was 17 when the child was born, Hahn said. He is now 19, Hahn said.

Morales was an aide at the Canyon View School at the McKinley Children's Center, Hahn said. According to the facility's website, "programs are designed to address the disability needs of the students and to challenge them at the same time."

Students range in age from 5 to 22.

"The case originated at the school after a journal belonging to Ms. Morales was found," Hahn said. "(It) detailed an ongoing sexual relationship with a student, (the) victim. This relationship resulted in Ms. Morales having a child who was fathered by the victim."

Morales, who was arrested at her residence, has been placed on administrative leave, Hahn said.
