Patch Takes a Spot in the Top 5 Publishers

Online Media, Marketing and Advertising names Patch as one of the top 5 most important online publishers.

Patch media has been named among the top five of the 100 most important online publishers, according to the Magazine of Online Media, Marketing and Advertising (OMMA). Patch comes in just behind prominent media giants such as: Facebook (1), New York Times (2), Huffington Post (3) and Netflix (4).

We've also placed higher than such established news organizations as the Wall Street Journal (8), CNN (10) and Washington Post (53).

Patch was founded by former Google sales chief Tim Armstrong before he became CEO of AOL. Patch was then acquired by AOL and is now the core of the company's hyper-local media strategy.

"With a network of more than 500 community news reporting sites, Patch now rivals much, maybe most, of local newspaper and TV coverage," OMMA editors said of Patch's placement. "It's also becoming a big factor in AOL's attempts to convince Madison Avenue to act local, even as it thinks global."

AOL was listed sixth, coming in ahead of Google, which held the #7 spot.
