Missing Hikers, Bikers Rescued in Angeles National Forest

The lost mountain bikers and hikers were discovered by Montrose Search and Rescue on the Gabriel Trail in the Angeles National Forest.

A search by members of the Montrose Search and Rescue Team on the Gabriel Trail in the Angeles National Forest for two missing mountain bikers also resulted in the rescue of two lost hikers who had joined the bikers, the sheriff's department announced today.

The team was sent to the trail after a person who was due to meet the mountain bikers at noon on Monday waited another five hours and then called the sheriff's Crescenta Valley Station, asking for help, said Capt. Bill Song.

The mountain bikers, two men from Florida, were located on the trail about 8:45 p.m. uninjured, but lost. Along the way, the bikers were joined by two men who had been hiking and became lost.

They decided to stick together, Song said. When found, the bikers and hikers were returned to the trail head.

The bikers were given a ride to their hotel and the hikers were taken back to Chantry Flats, where they had started their hike.
