Los Angeles County Sheriff's Deputies Get Raises

The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors today approved a 6 percent salary increase to be paid over the next two years to sheriff's deputies and deputy probation officers.

It is the first general salary increase for that group of employees since August 2008. Salaries were frozen countywide that year in response to the financial crisis, a condition lifted this year as property and sales tax revenues began to increase.

Glendora has its own Police Department that is unaffected. But Sheriff's officials patrol unincorporated areas of the city and provides back up response when needed.

The increase agreement has already been ratified by the relevant unions: the Association for Los Angeles Deputy Sheriffs, Unit 611 and American Federation for State, County and Municipal Employees, Local 685.

Public safety employees not represented by the unions, such as captains, commanders and other supervisors, will also receive a 6 percent raise. The county approved the same increase for firefighters and lifeguards on June 25.

The first 2 percent increase is effective July 1 and workers will see the higher pay reflected in their August checks.

County officials are still negotiating with the unions that represent non-public safety employees.
