Showers Expected as Southland Heads Toward Winter

The National Weather Service predicts the rain to taper off by the afternoon today.



Yes, rain is in the weather forecast today, but it may not be the torrential downpour that plagued Friday evening’s opening of the Glendora Centennial Carnival.

 A cold morning rain is forecast to fall on the Southland today as daylight saving time comes to an end.

Light rain -- from a tenth of an inch to a quarter of an inch – is expected in Los Angeles, tapering off by the afternoon, according to the National Weather Service.

In the local mountains, more snow is expected at elevations of about 5,500 feet or more, according to the NWS. Mountain High Ski resort opened yesterday after getting about four inches of natural snow Friday.

Overnight metro-area lows were in the mid 40s.

Rainfall totals around Los Angeles were expected to be similar to Friday's -- perhaps up to a half-inch in some foothill areas -- with most of the rain falling in the morning. Scattered afternoon showers are possible, but the front should have passed by about midday, according to the NWS.

Highs around Los Angeles today will be in the upper 50s and low 60s, and the week ahead looks to be chilly, with overnight lows in the 40s and highs expected to peak in the low 70s by midweek. Looking ahead, more rain is expected by the weekend.

Day light saving time ended at 2 a.m.

Tonight, a 20 percent chance of rain is forecast. Monday should be mostly sunny with highs in the 60s.

At the beaches, the surf will have subsided since Saturday, with a northwest swell rolling in at 3-4 feet. Water temperatures will be in the low 60s.The swell is expected to build Monday.
