Huge 130-Foot Beams for Gold Line Transported Through Monrovia

The beams are needed for the San Gabriel River Bridge.

Giant beams needed for the Gold Line Foothill Extension's San Gabriel River Bridge were transported through Monrovia Friday afternoon.

Three of the 130-foot beams were moved on trucks throughout the city from noon to 2 p.m. and more of the beams will be transported until Tuesday, according to a Monrovia news release.

"Based on the alternatives evaluated by Public Works, Gold Line and their contractors, this route and delivery times will result in the least impact to our community," City Manager Laurie Lile said in a prepared statement.

Bridge construction is part of the Metro Gold Line extension project to the Azusa/Glendora border.

The trucks exited the westbound 210 at Myrtle Avenue and turned left onto West Central Avenue. They then moved west on Central to Mayflower Avenue, turning left on Duarte Road and moving eastbound into the city of Duarte.

"Drivers on the road during this time are asked to be mindful of pilot cars and traffic controls in the area," the release states.
