"All right, now pay attention. First you take the graham, you stick the chocolate on the graham. Then you roast the 'mallow. When the 'mallow's flaming, you stick it on the chocolate. Then cover with the other end. Then you scarf. Kind of messy, but good."
- Ham Porter, The Sandlot
This iconic line pretty much sums up the simple goodness of an original s'more. Flaming marshmallow meets chocolate and graham crackers.
But what if you want to liven up this quintessential camping commodity?
Here are a few ideas to create creative s'mores. Grab some roasting sticks, a few of your closest friends and family, make a nice toasty fire and scarf.
The Sandwich:
Classic s'mores are made by sandwhiching chocolate and marshmallows in between to squares of graham crackers. Instead of crackers try one of these alternatives:
- Chocolate chip cookies.
- Pretzels (be aware of the holes).
- Flavored graham crackers.
- Bananas.
The Filling:
Instead of or in addition to chocolate try one of these delicious add-ins:
- Chocolate spread like Nutella.
- Nut Butters.
- Fruit jams and preserves.
- Other candies such as m&m's or caramels.
Don't like marshmallows? Skip the mallow and just sandwhich the chocolate. Trust me it still tastes good!
