Gold Line Construction Updates: The Latest on the Extension to the Azusa/Glendora Border

Work continues on at-grade crossings and bridges in Azusa.

From the Gold Line Construction Authority:

The Foothill Extension from Pasadena to Azusa project hit an important milestone last month when all 82 design packages were "Approved for Construction." Most packages had reached this point earlier in the year, but the last few made it to the final point of approval in May.

Thousands of pages of engineering were completed for the 11.5-mile project - from drainage, walls and fencing, to station and bridge designs, to the electrical and communication systems.

Although design work will continue throughout the construction process, the finalization of these packages is a major milestone and one that took the cooperation and partnership of all of the corridor cities and our partner agencies.

Construction Highlights  Below is a highlight of some of the construction activities now underway:

Azusa
Work on three at-grade crossings and nine bridges is currently underway in the city of Azusa. Numerous streets are closed to traffic and detour routes are in place throughout Azusa.

Irwindale
Foundation work for the 700-ft long San Gabriel River Bridge is underway. Crews will continue ironwork and installation of foundation form walls (shown from air above).

Monrovia and Duarte
Work at the Monrovia and Duarte Gold Line Stations continues, as numerous at-grade crossings are also under construction in these two cities.

Arcadia
This past month, the Colorado Boulevard Bridge was substantially completed, and the street re-opened to traffic (as shown above-right). Work began immediately following on Santa Anita Ave, in preparation for bridge construction for the new light rail bridge over this major artery of the city.
