Glendora War Memorial to Make its Debut

The City is planning a dedication ceremony for its long-awaited war memorial.

After five years, countless volunteer hours and more than $100,000 of donations, the City of Glendora is nearly ready to unveil its war memorial.

The granite military memorial honoring the heroic deeds of men and women in uniform – including 38 Glendora servicemen who died in action since World War II – will be unveiled during a dedication ceremony 10 a.m. June 22 at Glendora City Hall, 116 E. Foothill Blvd.

The effort for Glendora’s own war memorial began in 2008, when a committee of community members began raising money for the effort, ranging from placing donation boxes around town to schools hosting penny drives. The effort eventually raised $140,000 with construction on the memorial beginning in April.

According to City Manager Chris Jeffers, donations included not only monetary donations, but material to build the memorial and volunteers hours to build the memorial itself.

Glendora Avenue and Foothill Boulevard near the memorial site will be closed during the ceremony.
