A 19-year-old man suffered a severe cut to his head this morning when he crashed a car on a cul-de-sac while fleeing police in Glendora, authorities said.

Officers were called to the 600 block of East Mauna Loa Avenue around 12:50 a.m. to investigate a disturbance at a party, said Glendora police Lt. Jamie Caldwell.

When they arrived, some people pointed the suspect out, saying he had been causing trouble, Caldwell said. As officers approached the young man, he got into a car and sped off and the officers gave chase, Caldwell said.

The suspect traveled only about three blocks before crashing on a cul-de- sac in the 500 block of East Haltern Avenue, Caldwell said, adding the car, moving at "a good rate of speed,'' hit a wall, a parked car and a tree.

The man, a resident of Glendora, was taken to County-USC Medical Center, where his blood was drawn to check for drug or alcohol impairment because he exhibited symptoms of intoxication, he said.

The man was not arrested, but the blood test results, when they become available, will be turned over to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office for possible prosecution, Caldwell said. The driver also faces a possible felony evading charge, he said.
