Get Out: Five Ideas For Your Weekend

Car shows and food trucks rule this weekend.

From the glitter of hot rods shining in the sun to the shimmer of Tinkerbell's fairy dust on a spotlit stage, this final August weekend truly sparkles. 

Our goal is to make the Get Out planner as reliable as possible, but keep in mind, some events change at the last minute. We advise calling ahead just in case.

When/Where: 8 p.m. Fridays, 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. Saturdays and 2 p.m. Sundays through Sept. 4 at the Covina Center for the Performing Arts, 104 N. Citrus Ave., Covina

Why Go: The Covina Center for the Performing Arts and Crescendo Theatrical Productions present this new musical. The familiar tale is made even livelier with fun music.

 Pricing: $28-38

When/Where: 8 a.m. this Saturday, leaving from the 

Why Go: Glendora Trails Committee members conduct free Saturday morning hikes and this particular one is a strenuous 2-mile trek that will descend stream-side into the Big Dalton Canyon. Children 12 and younger must have adult supervision. No pets, please. Members should bring a daypack with 3 quarts of water and snacks. Long pants are recommended. Sunscreen, water, and a hat may be needed. 

Pricing: Free 

When/Where: 11 a.m.-6 p.m. this Saturday at Memorial Park, 222 W. Sierra Madre Blvd., Sierra Madre

Why Go: If you missed the last food truck rally, you are in luck; even more trucks will be there this time around. Trucks include Grilled Cheese Patrol, Lardon (as in "get your"), Sloppy Barbecue and Crepe'n Around - and that's just a handful. 

Pricing: Proceeds help benefit the Sierra Madre Chamber of Commerce and Sierra Madre Rose Float Association 

When/Where: 6-11 p.m. this Saturday in Glendora Village on Glendora Avenue between Foothill and Bennett 

Why Go: This fun, fundraiser is hosted by the and  The show will feature a wide selection of classic cars, trucks, hot rods, and motorcycles. There will also be continuous live music on two stages, a Kids' Fun Zone, and delicious food and drinks.

Pricing: $10 adults, $8 children ages 10-16 and seniors, free for children younger than 10. All proceeds go to scholarships, local organizations and business improvement projects. See sponsors or Village merchants for a $2 off coupon.

When/Where: The car show will begin at 1 p.m., theater doors will open at 2 p.m.  and the film will screen at 3 p.m. this Sunday at the Fox Theater, 301 S. Garey Ave., Pomona

Why Go: The Friends of the Pomona Fox will screen this classic James Dean film. As a bonus, vintage car clubs from all over Southern California will come together for a fun car show in the parking lot across the street from the theater. The theater marquee will sport the title of the film and car enthusiasts will have the opportunity to have their photo taken out in front, either with the car they brought or with a vintage car provided.  

Pricing: $8 adults, $3 children 12 and younger

Go, go GPD. It is nice to be appreciated, but even better when someone acknowledges it.
