'Foothills Bandit' Tries to Strike Again, Fails in Third Local Bank Robbery Attempt

Authorities say the man who tried to rob an Glendora bank earlier this week targeted a Temple City Wells Fargo branch Thursday.

A man suspected of robbing or trying to rob several San Gabriel Valley banks made another attempt at a Temple City Wells Fargo but gave up before getting any cash, the Pasadena Star-News reports.

The man the FBI calls the "Foothills Bandit" walked into the branch on 9635 Las Tunas Drive at about 11:10 p.m., according to the paper.

"The suspect entered the bank and basically contacted a teller and asked for money," Lt. Loy McBride told Patch. "The teller activated the silent alarm and went and got the branch manager and the suspect left."

The man claimed that there was a bomb outside the building, McBride said. He told employees in at an Arcadia Chase branch Monday that he had a bomb inside a suitcase, authorities said.

The man successfully robbed a bank in Glendora on May 28, according to investigators.
