Council to Decide on Proposed Bonnie Cove Condominiums

The public is invited to offer input on the proposed 23-unit condominium project on Bonnie Cove Avenue and Gladstone Street.

The Glendora City Council will mull over the fate of a debated 23-unit condominium project on the corner of Bonnie Cove Avenue and Gladstone Street during Tuesday’s City Council meeting.

A public hearing on the proposed project will take place 7 p.m. in the City Council Chambers, 116 E. Foothill Blvd.

While city staff has opposed the project due to current zoning conflicts, the planning commission approved the project 4-1 in May.

The detached condominium project, to be built by the Olsen Group, covers 2.47 acres on five acres of land.

According to Planning Director Jeff Kugel, the development is not consistent with the existing neighborhood, which is single-family. Changing the current medical facility zoning would require an amendment of the General Plan, he said.

Staff argued that the proposed development did not include a comprehensive plan for the entire property, and that a rezoning would create a “ripple effect” for other properties in the area.

However, local residents have voiced support for the project, saying they prefer this project over a medical facility expansion that was proposed on the same property in 2007. That project was later abandoned by the developer.

“Yes there’s 23 condos, but I would take that any day over a 48-foot building with the option of going 80 feet tall,” said Glendora resident Erica Landman during a March Planning Commission meeting.
