City Begins Work on Grand Avenue Repaving

Grand Avenue will be busy with construction as the city’s Public Works department  begins to repave the busy street for a two-week project.

Construction officially began Tuesday and is expected to end by May 29. Work will be focused on Grand Avenue from Citrus Edge Street to Base Line Road. However, because the street is a main traffic corridor, all work requiring lane closures will be limited at night between night between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m.

City Civil Engineer Maliha Ansari said that the project is just one of several projects in recent years in which the city has repaved areas of its old and worn down traffic corridors.

“These are old streets and Grand Avenue sees a lot of traffic,” Ansari said. “They see a lot of heavy use and the wear and tear is more than other streets. We’re just trying to patch things up and maintain our streets.”
