Valentine's Day a Labor of Love For Glendora Merchants

Flowers are big business on Valentine's Day, but local merchants are teaming up to offer more than just bouquets of roses for loved ones.

For florists across the country, Valentine’s Day is the biggest shopping season of the year.

Valentine’s Day is a $17 billion industry for florists, according to the National Retail Federation and florists have been gathering and prepping their flowers weeks in advance for the lovers’ holiday.

At , Valentine’s Day love is already blooming, with workers busy prepping flowers for advance orders.

But come Tuesday, Feb. 14, florists are preparing for the frantic phone calls – the last minute orders from husbands and significant others hoping to surprise their loved ones with a floral arrangement before the day is through.

“Ladies, we try to plan everything, but [men] they always do everything at the last minute, which is good, it’s the surprise factor…but this Tuesday, we’re ready for you guys,” Glendora Florist owner Dalel Snider said.

The shop is expecting to fill 300 orders by Tuesday and go through 50 bunches of flowers. But aside from roses, hydrangeas and tulips, the flower shop is teaming up with local merchants to offer a little more variety of Valentine’s Day gifts.

The shop is also selling handmade jewelry from a local artist, offering mini-facials and flower packages through Allure Beauty Essentials and providing chocolates from – including their signature sugar free options.

“I think women really want some time to themselves, some time to relax,” said Ann-Marie Torres with. “We thought partnering with Dalel and offering gift certificates for facials was a good idea because it offers women that element of relaxation.”

But guys aren’t excluded from receiving on Valentine’s Day.

Glendora Florist is also offering a $200  floral arrangement complete with a exterior and interior car detail.

"We thought about creating a one-stop shopping experience for last-minute Valentine's Day shoppers," said Snider. "Everything is here, it's gift-wrapped and ready. All you have to do is show up."

To prepare for all the last-minute Valentine’s Day orders, Glendora Florist will be open throughout the weekend and will stay open until 8 p.m. on Valentine’s Day.
