Starbucks to Sell Alcohol in Select Southland Locations

The coffee chain announced it will begin selling beer and wine in a handful of locations by the end of the year.

Ordering another shot could take on a new meaning when Starbucks begins selling alcohol in select Southern California locations.

A handful of Southland Starbucks locations will begin offering wine and beer by the end of 2012, the coffee chain announced Monday.

Starbucks began selling beer, wine and premium foods at some of their Pacific Northwest stores in October 2010. Starbucks previously announced plans to sell alcohol and premium foods at seven Chicago locations by the end of the year.

Although Starbucks has not announced the exact locations where they plan to sell the alcohol, they said they plan to add the program to four to six stores in Southern California and Atlanta.

In Glendora, there are currently two Starbucks locations –  one on and another on.

“As our customers transition from work to home, many are looking for a warm and inviting place to unwind and connect with the people they care about,” according to Clarice Turner, Starbucks' senior vice president for U.S. operations. “At select stores where it is relevant for the neighborhood, we are focused on creating an atmosphere where our customers can relax with a friend, a small bite to eat and a cup of coffee or glass of wine.”

The coffee giant said they will also add “flexible seating” for individuals and small, as well as larger parties.
