Southland Gasoline Prices Take Sharp Rise

The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Los Angeles County today recorded the largest daily increase since Feb. 29, rising 1.8 cents to $4.214.

The average price has increased for four consecutive days after falling for 35 consecutive days and is 2.3 cents higher than a week ago, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service.

However, the average price is 11 cents less than one month ago and 7 cents lower than one year ago.

The Orange County average price also recorded its largest daily increase since Feb. 29, increasing 1.9 cents to $4.192. That's 3.3 cents higher than a week ago, but 10.7 cents less than one month ago and 6.6 cents lower than one year ago.

"Oil industry analysts say California inventories of gasoline are low, and that could be contributing to the leveling off of prices,'' said Jeffrey Spring of the Automobile Club of Southern California.
