Some Gas Stations Dip Below $4 a Gallon

Gas prices fell a penny a day over the past week, according to the Automobile Club of Southern California.

Customers at the pump are seeing some relief as gas prices under $4 a gallon began appearing at gas stations across Southern California.

Prices dropped a penny a day over the past week, according to a press release from the Automobile Club of Southern California

In the Los Angeles-Long Beach area, the average price for self-serve gasoline is $4.189 a gallon, a nearly 8-cent drop from the previous week, but $1.08 more than last year.

In Orange County, the average gas price is $4.164 per gallon, reflecting a 7.8 cent decrease from a week ago. In Riverside and San Bernardino counties the average is $4.157 per gallon, down 8.7 cents from a week ago.

“It’s great to see prices coming down relatively quickly, but prices are still more than a dollar higher than a year ago,” said Auto Club spokesperson Jeffrey Spring.

“Nationally, Memorial Day travel is expected to stay at about the same level as last year – most likely a result of the gas price hikes this spring.”

According to Mapquest.com, the cheapest gas in the nation is in Roswell, NM at $3.39, while the most expensive gas is in Kaunakakai, HI at $5.42.
