While L.A. County gas stations experienced shortages and gas prices continued to hike, motorists crowded into the Costco store in San Dimas Friday afternoon. At one point, lines stretched down Gladstone street with motorists turning off their engines as they waited. That afternoon at 4 p.m., prices jumped from $4.31 per unleaded gallon to $4.41 the following hour.
West Coast refinery failures and a shortage of summer-formulated fuel are being blamed for the record spike in gas prices. The daily increase in gas prices is the highest in Los Angeles County since 2008.
