San Dimas Ralphs Grocery Store Closed

The store located at 1005 W. Arrow Hwy closed Aug. 30.

A sign in the window at Ralphs, 1005 W. Arrow Hwy in San Dimas, signaled the store’s closure Friday.

The vacated store, located in the San Dimas Plaza near the Glendora-San Dimas border, closed Aug. 30, according to the sign posted in the store’s window, foothillretailcorridor.com reports.

The store shared the 187,000-square-foot shopping center with Rite Aid, Big 5 Sporting Goods and TJ Maxx.

Ralphs commented on its Facebook page regarding the San Dimas location’s closure: “The decision to close this store was very difficult, and we are grateful to all of our associates for their service and dedication to us, as well as our loyal customers. We apologize for any inconvenience this closure may have caused. We hope to see you in our neighboring stores.”

With discount grocers Costco, Sam's Club, Wal-Mart and Target surrounding it (not to mention the more reasonably-priced Stater Brothers), I guess this isn't surprising.

Shoppers nowadays are more educated now and are willing to travel farther for low prices and/or high-quality items. Generic supermarkets like Vons, Albertson, and Ralphs offer consumers very little except for convenience. These chains will probably close more and more stores within the next decade or two.

What happened to the promised stores in the Glendora Marketplace - JoAnns Fabrics, Sprouts Market, Panera Bread, etc.

The demise of the chains like Ralphs, Vons and Albertsons I think can be directly traced to the rise of the non-union grocery stores (Walmart, Costco, Target, etc) which can offer the exact same product for less.
