Police Stepping Up Patrols at AMC 12

Officers want to make their presence known in light of shooting at Colorado theater.

will be making a stronger presence at the theater this weekend in an effort to put people's minds at ease in the wake of the recent shootings in Colorado.

Officers will be performing some extra patrols, in vehicles and on foot, and the police helicopter contracted by the city will also perform additional flyovers near the theater. Officers want patrons to feel an added level of comfort and not that their lives are in jeopardy.

"You got a lot of people beginning the weekend, the show's coming out, we want our citizens to feel comfortable," said Lieutenant Jamie Caldwell. "The worst thing you want to worry about is somebody coming up to be a copycat. That is something we always fear."

A gunman covered head to toe in body armor opened fire at a midnight showing of "The Dark Knight Rises" at a theater in Aurora, Colo. Authorities report 12 died and 58 were wounded in the shootings.

AMC Theatres that masks, fake weapons and costumes that may make other moviegoers "uncomfortable" will be banned from its theaters.

Police will be looking for anything out of the ordinary, actions that people going to see a movie may not normally exhibit. The police helicopter, contracted out of Pasadena, may use its spotlight to occasionally search the theater perimeter.
