Gas Prices Hit Record High

Continuing an upward trend, gas prices spike more than 7 cents.

The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Los Angeles County this week recorded its largest daily increase since at least 2010, rising 7.3 cents to $4.186, its highest amount since May 19 of last year.

The sharp increase is the result of a major fire at the Cherry Point refinery near Blaine, Wash., that will cause its closure for at least three weeks and reduce supply, Marie Montgomery of the Automobile Club of Southern California told City News Service.

Wondering where the cheapest gas is in town? Patch has got the answer!

It's one of three new features we launched on the site:

Traffic and Gas
With our new Traffic & Gas tab, you can:

  • Consult a real time traffic map complete with incident reports and construction notices.
  • Find the lowest gas prices in town.

This map is powered by Mapquest.

You can get to that page directly HERE or by clicking on the Traffic and Gas Tab on the navigation bar on the homepage.

Try out our new features, and let us know what you think.
