Donut Man Ranked Among Country’s Best Doughnuts

The doughnut shop on Route 66 is featured in Saveur Magazine’s March edition.

On the topic of the best doughnut shops in the Los Angeles area, the landmark Donut Man in Glendora is usually a requisite pick. But in the March edition of Saveur Magazine, on newsstands now, the Donut Man is one of four L.A. area doughnut shops to make the magazine’s list of the country’s best.

Jane and Michael Stern of Roadfood lists their favorite doughnut shops in the country in the magazine’s “United States of Donuts.” The Donut Man takes the food magazine’s distinction with its signature fresh fruit-filled glazed doughnuts.

Along with the Donut Man, Stan’s Donut Corner in Westwood Village, Earl’s Donuts in Chatsworth, and Doughnut Hut in Burbank were included in the list of the top 50 U.S. doughnut shops.

Do you agree with Saveur Magazine’s picks? Do you think The Donut Man ranks among the country’s best doughnut shops?

Try working out at the gym next to this place! Talk about temptation......... Sometimes I leave at 8,9 or even 10pm and there is ALWAYS a line. As someone who didn't grow up eating these donuts I will say they are very good. I don't eat enough donuts to debate who make them better or the best but this guy has to be up there. Thanks Donut Man for putting our quite town on the map in a good way. I would rather live in a town any day that is known for donuts then crime.

Way to go, Donut Man!

Personally, I think the Donut Man's Strawberry-Filled Donuts should be listed as Number 1 in any listing of "best donuts". And, his Tiger Tails should be Number 2.

The Cornell's love the donuts at Donut Man. Especially the strawberry and peach filled ones! Wayne stops for coffee there all the time.

Best donuts? Really? Yes he has some unique fruit filled donuts, but the basic donuts are not that great. My son and his college friends won't go there anymore for their 1am runs because they get stale donuts. I had an apple fritter there 3 weeks ago and it was burnt, hard, and disgusting. I thought of getting my money back, but just decided not to go there anymore. Too bad...

Jeano must have had a bad day. The donuts are the best.
Michelle February 20, 2013 at 02:18 AM
Jeano, I thought I was the only one who thought this way. I think the donuts are not great at all. I refuse to go back also, have always received stale or "greasy" donuts. No thanks!

Strawberry donuts hit West Covina High School each year in the Spring as part of their FAT FRIDAY treat. Donut Man has new customers each year who drive up from that area just to get a second helping.

Damn right it is! Last week my family and I visited Donut Man 3 times, and when I'm out hiking at night and walk past at 2 in the morning or 3, there is always a crowd waiting, a line usually, some times 30 or more people waiting, all 3 windows open. Someone on Facebook asked me what's so special about Donut Man when I posted a photograph of a long line of about 40 people past 1:30 in the morning getting doughnuts. :) I had to say that the person has to visit Donut Man to find out for himself. :)

Great donuts...especially the apple friters. Plus, Jim and his staff are wonderful.

As his volume of sales has increased the quality of his product has not kept up, his consistency has fled....he needs to hire people with the same quality mindedness that he has. Instead when we go there in the early mornings the staff is joking around or working faster than the product can set....result is runny frostings, overcooked product and patrons waiting impatiently in line. Staff means everything!
