Driver Arrested After Failing to Stop, Crashing Into Tree

Late-night incident turns up reported stolen car.

Officers arrested an alleged parolee at large after he failed to yield, eventually crashed into a tree and attempted to flee officers.

Police arrested David Hasty, 46, on suspicion of driving a stolen vehicle and obstructing a police officer. Hasty was held without bail, according to county booking records.

The incident first began around 10:40 p.m., Saturday, in the 1200 block of South Charvers Avenue after residents called about a suspicious vehicle in the area. Once the responding officer arrived in the area, the car took off, said Lieutenant James DeMond.

The vehicle traveled south on Grand Avenue, turned west on West Laxford Street, south on Dale Road and eventually crashed into a tree on the corner of Dale and West Carter Drive, police said.

The driver fled the vehicle and ran into some backyards. A police helicopter arrived and helped establish a containment in the area, but officers quickly found the suspect hiding in a resident's back yard, according to scanner reports. The suspect was detained at gunpoint and taken into custody. The vehicle was reported stolen out of Monrovia.

Hasty is scheduled to appear in West Covina Superior Court July 3.
