Carmageddon II: Freeway Closures Starting Next Weekend

Upcoming freeway closures may cause major traffic delays.

In what might be called "Son of Carmageddon," Caltrans plans to close a major freeway link from Orange County into the Los Angeles area for the next two weekends, officials said Saturday.

On each of the next two weekends, the transition road road from the northbound San Diego (405) to the northbound San Gabriel (605) freeways will be closed for 55 hours.

The closures will be in effect starting at 10 p.m. on the Friday evenings of Sept. 14 and Sept. 21, and the major freeway ramp will be closed through the following Monday mornings.

That second weekend closure comes one week before the big "Carmageddon II'' closure of the entire 405 Freeway for three nights and two days over the Sepulveda Pass, 35 miles to the north.

In the good news department, the major freeway connection from Long Beach to the southbound 405 was to reopen today, Caltrans officials said. Barricades were to be removed on the Seventh Street/Route 22 east connection to the Orange County freeway network at 5 a.m. today.
