Authorities Investigating Vehicle Fire Near 210 Freeway

Arson suspected in early morning blaze, according to firefighters at the scene.

Arson investigators with the Los Angeles County Fire Department examined a suspicious vehicle fire early Saturday morning.

Officials were tight-lipped and would not release many details.

Fire fighters arrived to the van, which was "well involved" at the bottom of the off ramp to the Interstate 210 freeway westbound at Sunflower Avenue just after 2 a.m. and extinguished it, according to scanner reports.

According to information provided by the California Highway Patrol, eyewitnesses reported what looked like a Chevy Asto Van, or Ford Explorer at the bottom of the off ramp with flames coming from inside the cab.

An initial report indicated a man lit the vehicle on fire and fled eastbound on the freeway, according to an officer with the CHP Traffic Management Center.

Fire fighters examined the vehicle and summoned arson investigators after discovering a gas canister and what appeared to be a large pool of gas on the floor of the vehicle underneath the canister, fire fighters said.

Sergeant Matt Egan of would not release further information, although he did say the fire was an arson.
