The body police believe is of an elderly woman was found in the burned home Thursday night.

One person is dead following a house fire in Glendora Thursday night.

Glendora Police rushed to the scene of a home fully engulfed in flames in the 900 block of East Cypress Avenue at around 11:11 p.m.

The officers were met by a man, described as frail and elderly, who escaped the single story home unhurt as it burned, but told officers his elderly wife was still inside the home, according to Sgt. Mike Randazzo.

“Because of the thick, black smoke and flames, officers were unable to make entry inside the house,” said Randazzo.

According to a story in the Los Angeles Times, neighbors heard calls for help and were able to assist the elderly man out of the home, but could not reach his wife in time.

When Los Angles County firefighters extinguished the flames, one body was found in the burned structure. While the body has yet to be identified, Randazzo said police believe the body is the man’s wife.

The couple is believed to have lived in the home for more than 40 years, according to The Times.

Glendora detectives and Los Angeles County Coroner investigators were at the scene early Friday morning to determine the cause of the fire. However, Randazzo said nothing suspicious or criminal has been found.
