Sept. 10, 1959: Glendora Hosts Festival of Arts

The day's festivities included displays of artwork, folk dancers and a performance by fan dancer Sally Rand.

The Glendora Festival of Arts opened Sept. 10, 1959, taking over Glendora’s downtown with stunning art displays, music, dance and theater performances.

The daylong event transformed Michigan Avenue (now Glendora Avenue) into a Parisian-style artwalk, as painters set up their easels along storefronts and displayed their artwork.

Musical performances included the San Gabriel Valley Symphony Orchestra and folk dances from Spain, Mexico, Bavaria, Italy, and Switzerland.
