On This Day in Glendora: June 4, 1954

Glendoran recognized as one of nation' top scientists.

The Glendora Press reported that Glendora resident Calvin Gongwer was selected by Fortune Magazine as one of the “Ten Top Young Scientists in U.S. Industry.” Congwer, the 37-year-old head of the Aerojet’s Underwater Engine Division, was selected from hundreds of scientists under the age of 41.

Gongwer co-invented Aerojet’s MiniSub and had presented a film on his miniature submarine to the Glendora Kiwanis Club.
