July 4, 1976: Glendora Celebrates America’s 200th Birthday

The city caps off the night with a fireworks show at Citrus College stadium.

The Glendora Bicentennial Committee organized a series of events leading into America’s 200th birthday on July 4, 1976, and culminating with a “grand finale” of fireworks at the Citrus College stadium.

The Glendora Lions Club hosted the annual fireworks show, which is currently now discontinued.

Other July Fourth celebrations included a day of sack races, games, booths and a children’s parade at Recreation Park, a block north of Foothill Boulevard. According to the Glendora Press, the highlight of the day was a watermelon-eating contest.
