July 20, 1951: Fire Destroys Packing House

"Hundreds of thousands of dollars" in damages to the Dameral-Allison packing house was estimated.

A fire that broke out at 11 p.m. July 20, 1951 nearly completely destroyed the old Dameral-Allison packing house.  Towering smoke and flames overwhelmed local fire agencies who could only pour water to keep the fire from spreading, according to the Glendora Press.

The packing house was used to process fresh juice for local distribution.

The report did not say how the fire was started.
