July 16, 1967: Glendora Teacher’s CPR Saves Drowned Baby

Nancy Kettle used quick thinking and CPR skills to revive a baby who had drowned in a pool.

Glendora substitute teacher Nancy Kettle had only learned mouth-to-mouth resuscitation a few months before she actually found herself in a life and death situation, reported the Glendora Press on July 16, 1967.

Kettle heard cries of anguish in a neighbor’s yard and responded to find a motionless baby in the deep end of a pool.

She dove in and performed CPR on the child, who slowly began breathing again. By the time a fire squad arrived, the boy was breathing on his own.
