How Walkable is Glendora?

A study rates Glendora's most walkable neighborhoods.

Glendora is known for its miles of hiking and equestrian trails, and when it comes to stacking up against the state’s most “walkable” cities, Glendora is slightly above the state average, according to a recent study conducted by Walk Score

 The organization, which promotes the importance of making cities easy to navigate on foot for health and environmental benefits, gave Glendora a score of 52, putting it in the “somewhat walkable” range.  Cities with scores between 50-69 has some amenities within walking distance.

According to the study, 29% of Glendora residents have a Walk Score of 70 or above. Glendora's most walkable ZIP code is 91740. Glendora's least walkable ZIP code is 91741. Visitors to the Web site can also enter an address to determine their neighborhoods walkability.

Cities that score in the range of 25-49 are labeled car dependent, meaning they have few amenities within walking distance.

The average score statewide was 50, with 37 percent of cities making that mark or above.  The vast majority of communities scored, 63 percent, live in car dependent neighborhoods.  The highest score in the state went to West Hollywood at 89, while Riverside County’s Mead Valley earned an 8.

Some surrounding communities fared as well as Glendora, with West Covina earning a score of 51, La Puente 52 and Covina 62.

Diamond Bar got a 42, Walnut scored a 41 and Rowland Heights a 49, which put them in the car dependent range.

Walkable neighborhoods, according to Walk Score, offer the following benefits:

  • Reduce emissions that contribute to pollution and climate change
  • Keep weight down – the average person living in a walkable neighborhood weighs 6-10 pounds less than someone who lives in a sprawling community.
  • Increase property values
  • Ensure residents are more invested in their communities – studies show that for every 10 minutes a person spends commuting by car daily, the amount of time spent in their neighborhood falls by 10 percent.
