Hazardous Weather: Wind Gusts Expected to Batter San Gabriel Valley

The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather outlook for the San Gabriel Valley and other parts of the Southland.

Moderate to strong Santa Ana winds are expected to bring gusty and potentially damaging winds to the San Gabriel Valley Wednesday morning and evening, according to the National Weather Service.

While 70-mph gusts battered parts of the Southland Wednesday, the winds are expected to die down in the afternoon and pick up again in the evening, according to a weather service report.

A high wind warning denoting 40-mile per hour winds and gusts of around
60 mph will be in effect until 2 p.m. Thursday in both the San Gabriel and
Santa Monica mountains. Folks living or traveling in areas subject to the high wind warning should ``be alert for flying debris,'' according to an NWS advisory.

Watch out for fallen trees and downed power lines and secure all doors and windows, the advisory stated.

The 70-mph gusts were recorded at NWS recorded early Wednesday morning at Camp Nine in the San Gabriels, while Chilao registered winds of 67 mph.

The forecast for Glendora is 10-15 MPH with a max of 25 MPH. There will not be any significant winds here, only in the usual spots below the Cajon pass etc. This article is non-sense. Just a light breeze in Glendora, if anything. Click on the interactive map on the National Weather Service site on Glendora and look at the forecast. Don't just cut a paste a blanket advisory that covers a large area and then post that is what will happen in Glendora. Poor reporting with no knowledge of actual local weather patterns.

No winds in Glendora, but my cars had a layer of dust/dirt on them this morning. So did my newspaper. Strange as I didn't hear or see any wind.

Nope, but my neighborhood's cars had a nice layer of dust/silt/ash on them this morning. Thought my neighbor's chimney blew the opposite way last night, but I had friends on the other side of Glendora with the same issue.

Yes, they do need to bulldoze Hobo Junction along with the recycling center to the west of it thatRead More attracts its inhabitants.
Tina June 18, 2013 at 12:28 pm
You are so right Danlp oh how I wish they would clean that area up. I might be wrong but it appearsRead More to be getting worse. They not only take up all the grass area but are now starting to sit out in front of Wells Fargo. Come on Glendora.....

That's what I've been wondering????? Typical Glendora withholding information. Sounded like a methRead More lab blowing up. I heard it was on vista Bonita and some type of " chemical fire".

I called the non-emergency # for the Glendora Police Dept. and the operator told me 'they' knewRead More nothing about the explosion. Then I told her I had 'just read' on Patch that a Glendora Police Officer had told a resident that it probably was an industrial fire cracker, but I 'thought' it was way too massive for that. The operator had 'nothing' more to say.

The local government has chosen to adopt the Sgt. Schultz syndrome that is used by all those in TheRead More District of Corruption, in Washington. Why not? It is working for them, they are getting away with everything they try.

Well, good luck with that Donald, I've been sending emails to the City Manager ( Mr. Jeffries) for 2Read More years about that stretch of road and all that's been done is the filling of two small potholes. The road condition is an embarrassment to all in the city.
carolyn May 30, 2013 at 11:08 am
I agree with you Danlp, it is a mess on Grand Ave. from Bennett to Sierra Madre. The road had soRead More many pot holes its hard to travel and its a main street wich is just making it worse. Wish they would do something about it Grand Ave.We pay taxes , and my car would appreciate it alot save on matience on my tires and balance.
B.K. Holthaus May 31, 2013 at 10:44 pm
Amen to you both. I have seen several streets in Glendora that could use repair. I was recentlyRead More driving in cities with much fewer resources and and smaller budgets than Glendora wondering why their roads are better than ours. Maybe we need to start with Grand and go from there....
