Glendora Teen Wins State Contest, Featured on Billboard

A Glendora High School student reminds her peers why breakfast is the most important meal of the day.

A Glendora teen is all smiles, now that her face towers over the city, milk mustache and all.

15-year-old Glendora High School sophomore Vanessa Gill beat out 60 competitors to win first place in the 2011 Got Milk? Breakfast Photo Contest.

She not only has her photo plastered on a billboard, which is perched on the corner of Route 66 and Grand Avenue, she also won a $1,000 prize.

"It's really a big honor for me," Gill said at a small gathering of family, friends and education and city leaders. "I never though that I would win this."

Her winning submission consists of a cleverly-drawn milk jug composed of various mathematical equations drawn on a dry erase board. A picture of Albert Einstein is taped to the board and a bowl filled with cereal and milk rests next to Gill.

Gill will put half of her money prize into a college savings account and donate $300 to cancer research.

She will also take her mom and little sister out to eat, as a way of saying 'thank you' for their help.

Now in its second year, the contest runs from the start of the school year to October and tasks teens 13-18 to submit an original photo depicting why breakfast with milk is important for overall health and academic performance.
