UPDATED: Glendora PD Searching For Reported Armed Suspect

Large containment area set up with multiple police agencies. The suspect pointed a gun at two bounty hunters and fled, police said.

UPDATE, Nov. 21, 3:40 p.m.: Glendora Police were still unable to find the 29-year-old suspect Jose Rosas after police from several agencies set up a containment area Tuesday night. The search was called off at around 1:13 a.m. early Wednesday morning. The suspect has not been found, apprehended or arrested, Lt. Brian Summers said.

Summers said Rosas, who goes by Emmanuel "Manny" Freeman, was approached by bounty hunters at his home in the 2000 block of East Inola Steet Tuesday night regarding a warrant for his arrest out of Long Beach. Rosas is reportedly an L.A. Occupy activist and is wanted for obstructing an officer during a L.A. Occupy protest in Long Beach, said Summers.

Summers said law enforcement agencies were informed that the suspect was potentially armed based on several eyewitness reports.

Family members insist that Rosas was not armed when he fled from the bounty hunters, referring to him as a "peace-loving hippie."

"We have two separate sides of who is saying what," said Summers. "We’re going to assume he is potentially armed, just like we would anyone else when there is an allegation of a firearm being made.

"We told the family it’s probably safer for everyone involved if he would just turn himself in," said Summers. "It doesn't need to be a bigger matter than it was originally."

Anyone with information on Rosas' whereabouts is encouraged to call Glendora Police at (626) 914-8250.

UPDATE, 1:29 a.m.: Officers ended their containment and search for a reported armed suspect around 1:13 a.m., according to scanner reports. Police conducted a yard-to-yard search and checked some vehicles leaving the area, but have not found the suspect.

UPDATE, 11:28 p.m.: Officers and the Foothill Special Enforcement Team are still searching for a man who reportedly brandished a gun at two bounty hunters who attempted to serve him a warrant for his arrest, according to Captain Tim Staab of Glendora Police. Several other people reportedly saw suspect Jose Rosas, 29, brandish the weapon as well, said Staab.

The bounty hunters tried to serve the warrant in the 2000 block of East Inola Steet. The subject allegedly brandished the weapon and fled north across Route 66 and to the area of Country Club Drive. Officers are conducting yard-to-yard searches with the aid of two K-9 units, Staab said.

The suspect had a warrant out of Long Beach for his arrest, Staab said.

PREVIOUSLY: An allegedly armed man is the subject of a large search by Glendora Police.

The man was reportedly approached by a group at his residence before 7:30 p.m. and the suspect allegedly flashed a handgun at them, according to scanner reports.

The man was last seen running eastbound in the area of East Financial Way and the housing tract on Saratoga Lane.

Glendora Police have a large containment set up.

Covina Police, Azusa Police, a Los Angeles Sheriff's Department deputy and a Los Angeles Police Department helicopter overhead are assisting Glendora Police with the search. A SWAT team has been mobilized as well, according to scanner reports.

This story will continue to be updated as information becomes available.

No wonder this loser is running .with.family members as white trash and gun toting as you are I'd run too, go back to hickville and leave our peaceful town of Glendora for good! My kids need peace!
Uncle Rudy November 21, 2012 at 05:33 am
@michael i wish i had a way to contact him to turn him self in what is scary is that he does not know that he is reported as having a gun which means one quick dash or movement of his arm can get him shot i wish he was safely captured and behind bars rather than know he is out there running completely ignorant to the fact that he is said to be armed and being hunted as an armed man. And further more yo all the hate mongers if you were at least witty or creative in your hate i would at least appreciate the humor but the fact is people need to rise up and let glendora pd and the hunters know that we are watching them and warning them that he is unarmed and should be careful in their actions because alert and aware and worried family is staying on top of them

avelazq2 November 21, 2012 at 05:40 am
YES he should turn himself in! We are not here to dispute whether he should turn himself in or not but rather to give you all the truth that you do not have an armed man on your streets. HE IS NOT ARMED is all were trying to say!
Uncle Rudy November 21, 2012 at 05:42 am
Debating law with you is pointless but we can file charges for a crime that has taken place and as for the civil action it says clearly would be filed if killed due to false report that would be a wrongful death suit which family members are allowed to pursue and which would give them standing in the claim but why waste word with half wit twits anybody truely concerned please stay posted and please call glendora pd stating that you believe him to be unarmed
wwefefwfwe November 21, 2012 at 05:43 am
They literally just said leave name-calling out of the comments...
Garcia November 21, 2012 at 05:43 am
Hey uncle Rudy. Why don't you call the pd and give them Jose s cell number so the crisis negotiators can call him and work this thing out
T November 21, 2012 at 05:44 am
Maybe his reading comprehension is as bad as his writing ability.
Michael November 21, 2012 at 05:45 am
I completely understand your fears. Especially with all these negative perspectives on law enforcements, it's reasonable for anyone to fear for their safety. I do hope no one was harm in this case or any other cases in the future.
Mandy M November 21, 2012 at 05:45 am
Un justified murder if he is shot while unarmed. Possible jail time for the people who lied and put officers in the mind set of chasing an armed man. So yes, he could file suit, but the bounty hunters are the ones to really ask a lot of questions of, if what the family is saying is true. Pretty sure Michael is GPD and hopefully has put the word out that the suspect may not be armed and unaware of the claim by bounty hunters.
So you look up the law Jack DM and get a grip. I bet you are a hacking troll anyway right?

Tina June 18, 2013 at 12:28 pm
You are so right Danlp oh how I wish they would clean that area up. I might be wrong but it appearsRead More to be getting worse. They not only take up all the grass area but are now starting to sit out in front of Wells Fargo. Come on Glendora.....

I agree, NOT a firecracker. Does anyone know what street it actually happened on, since we allRead More thought it was loud enough that it must be our street ??
K.K June 17, 2013 at 08:06 am
That's what I've been wondering????? Typical Glendora withholding information. Sounded like a methRead More lab blowing up. I heard it was on vista Bonita and some type of " chemical fire".
Janelle June 18, 2013 at 04:08 pm
I called the non-emergency # for the Glendora Police Dept. and the operator told me 'they' knewRead More nothing about the explosion. Then I told her I had 'just read' on Patch that a Glendora Police Officer had told a resident that it probably was an industrial fire cracker, but I 'thought' it was way too massive for that. The operator had 'nothing' more to say.

Well, good luck with that Donald, I've been sending emails to the City Manager ( Mr. Jeffries) for 2Read More years about that stretch of road and all that's been done is the filling of two small potholes. The road condition is an embarrassment to all in the city.
carolyn May 30, 2013 at 11:08 am
I agree with you Danlp, it is a mess on Grand Ave. from Bennett to Sierra Madre. The road had soRead More many pot holes its hard to travel and its a main street wich is just making it worse. Wish they would do something about it Grand Ave.We pay taxes , and my car would appreciate it alot save on matience on my tires and balance.
B.K. Holthaus May 31, 2013 at 10:44 pm
Amen to you both. I have seen several streets in Glendora that could use repair. I was recentlyRead More driving in cities with much fewer resources and and smaller budgets than Glendora wondering why their roads are better than ours. Maybe we need to start with Grand and go from there....
