Churches Spend Super Bowl Sunday Rooting For a Worthy Cause

Local churches take part in an effort to end national hunger.

Each year on Super Bowl Sunday since 1990, churches across the country have been taking part in another kind of super bowl – the Souper Bowl of Caring.

Souper Bowl calls churches around the nation to choose a charity of their choice to donate their efforts to help combat national poverty.

Churches, including the Church of the Brethren, United Methodist Church, Grace Lutheran, Foothill Christian Center, Glendora Friends, Grace Episcopal and First Christian Church are taking part in a national effort to bring attention to the nation’s hunger problem.

Local nonprofits, including Shepherd’s Pantry and the Glendora Welfare Association have benefitted from local churches’ effort.

This Super Bowl weekend, parishioners at First Christian Church and APU students assisted the Citrus College ceramics department making bowls for the annual Empty Bowls event March 15 at First Christian Church.

“For the $20 ticket price, individuals will receive a delicious bowl of soup and bread donated by local restaurants, and they will go home with a beautiful handmade ceramic bowl and the satisfaction that they are helping to fight hunger one bowl at a time,” said city council member and pastor Karen Davis.

Go, go GPD. It is nice to be appreciated, but even better when someone acknowledges it.
