What Is Your Favorite Book? The Glendora Library Wants to Know
In honor of the Glendora Public Library’s 100th birthday, the library is compiling a list of Glendora’s top 100 books.
The Glendora Public Library is getting ready to celebrate its 100th birthday in May.
From 1908 – 1912, the Glendora Woman’s Club nurtured and grew the library reading room. One hundred years ago in May 1912, the reading room was entrusted to the City of Glendora and became the community’s Glendora Public Library.
In honor of the library’s upcoming centennial, the library would like to know – “What’s your favorite book?”
You can submit your title and author to in several ways:
- Go to: www.glendoralibrary.org and on home page you will find a link to submit your title;
- Email: library@glendoralibrary.org;
- Come to the library and fill out the Favorite Book form.
The results will be tallied and the library will create a list of the "Top 100 Favorite Books of Glendorans." Adult and/or children’s books, all are welcome. On May 1, 2012, see if your book made the list!
To celebrate the centennial, the library will have an “Eatable Book Contest” and ice cream social on May 19, 2012, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. More details to be announced.

I went to the Glendora library site and couldn't find the place to list my favorite book anywhere on the site. Okay, admittedly, I have my senior moments and I'm breaking in new glasses...but am I really missing the right link?

Thank you for your nominations. No, you are not having a senior moment! The link will be up on the library's home page later today. I apologize for the delay. It will be so interesting to see how the top 100 falls out! Robin Weed-Brown, Library Director

Pillars of the Earth, Angela's Ashes, Memoirs of a Geisha, Cold Mountain, Lay Down with Lions, Losing Mum and Pup, anything from David McCullough, James Herriott, David Sedaris, Christopher Hitchens or Johnathan Franzen. BK are you surprised we are both love books. :) probably why I appreciate your talent.

My writing doesn't have much to do with good writing, Denise :) But I appreciate your compliment and your appreciation for books! (although I haven't read any of your favorites yet...I'm about 20 years behind on my reading list!) Honestly, if I could only take three things to a deserted island, it'd be three books!

BK- Angela's Ashes was written by Frank McCourt, a teacher of English in a New York school in the projects. He wrote the book in retirement and won the Pulitzer Prize for it. He followed with a book called, Teacher Man. You should read both and maybe they will inspire you to attempt your own. Really good books are few and far between. David McCullough is the best historian out there. Both Truman and John Adams won the Pulitzer Prize for biography. Did you see the HBO series John Adams which was based on his book? I have thousands of books in clear tubs stacked in my garage which I am not sure what to do with. Too bad they did not have electronic books when I started reading. I am getting use to the medium, but suspect I will always be a traditionalist and favor a bounded book. I love the way Barnes and Noble smells when you walk in. I hope printed books don't totally go the way of the buggy whip, but things are looking bleak for the book stores these days. My favorite bookstore is the independent one in Covina on Citrus. I am going to stop complimenting you on your articles now. I don't want your wife to get angry with me for giving you a big head and making you difficult to live with at home. :) Don't stop contributing them though. I know you put time and effort into them and thought you should be aware that people do appreciate and enjoy them. Now which one book do I submit as my all-time favorite......

Thanks Denise. I am familiar with McCourt's personal history and I think his success is awesome. I do not lack inspiration to write...I lack self-discipline to write at great lengths! I'm working on it. I used to know all the independent bookstores in the L.A. area and had a few in Santa Barbara I loved, but they are all history. If you love books...look for the film, "84 Charing Cross Road"...it's a bibliophile's dream...great, true story...Ann Bancroft and Anthony Hopkins.
Oh...feel free to throw a compliment anytime you want. My wife is an "ex" and I doubt she'd care what anyone throws at me :)

I should have added Tuesdays With Morrie,....wow, what a great book about affirmation of life and coping with the gradual loss of it...I thought it was very inspiring.
