Planning Your Wedding: Top 5 Bridal Bouquet Styles

The bridal bouquet is the centerpiece of wedding floral arrangements. Here are the five most popular styles.

Spring is drawing near and brides-to-be are in the midst of wedding planning. With flowers being an important part of the big day, Glendora-based wedding and event consultant Cyndy Tessitor suggests brides start with the main floral project – the bridal bouquet.

There are so many styles and arrangements brides can choose from, but according to Tessitor, who has worked in the wedding industry for 25 years, there are five types of bouquets that have been consistently the most popular.

“The bridal bouquet is the hallmark piece of the wedding menu,” said Tessitor, who also used to own a floral shop in Glendora. “It is certainly true that spring flowers are gorgeous during weddings and we are certainly using them in our weddings.”

The top 5 bridal bouquet styles:

1. Exposed Stem Bouquet – This bouquet, perhaps the most popular type of bridal bouquet, is packed tightly with stems exposed and wrapped in a ribbon. Nearly any flower can be used in this style from roses, lilies, peonies and daisies. During warm days, these bouquets should be kept in vases when possible to avoid wilting.

2. Cascade Bouquet - These graceful bouquets cascade down from handle. Almost any flower can be used in a cascading bouquet, roses and orchids being popular choices.

3. Miss America Bouquet – These are popular in pageants and were used in older, more traditional weddings. However, Tessitor said this style is making a comeback. Flowers are held in a bouquet over the bride’s arm. Calla lilies, gladiolus, orchids, long-stemmed roses, delphiniums, and larkspur are popular choices for this style.

4. Crescent Bouquet – This bouquet is a second take of the cascade bouquet, but is in the shape of half moon. Orchids wired together can be used in this style.

5. Asymmetrical Bouquet – This is also a cascade style, but is designed to be off-centered. Lilies and roses do well in this style.
