Glendora Police Make Second Arrest in Copper Wire Theft

Metal fabrication worker arrested in connection with vandalism at Pompei Park.

Glendora Police have made another arrest as they continue to investigate the copper wire vandalism at Louis Pompei Memorial Sports park.

Donald Hendricks, 24, was arrested during a traffic stop on Bowdoin and Fruit streets in La Verne just before 4 a.m., Feb. 20, said Lt. Brian Summers of Glendora Police. Hendricks was booked on suspicion of grand theft of copper material, vandalism and receiving known stolen property.

Detectives working on the investigation were unavailable to release any more details about the arrest, but, according to arrest records Hendricks is identified by Glendora Police as a worker in the metal fabrication business. He has since been free after posting $20,000 bond that afternoon.

"He was stopped in La Verne on a traffic stop and arrested. He was linked to the thefts at Pompei Park through our investigation. He was arrested and interviewed by detectives," Summers said.

Penal Code 487J lists copper material thefts exceeding a value of $950 as a grand theft, according to leginfo.ca.gov.

Glendora Police received their first break in the copper theft case Jan. 31 when Covina Police arrested an individual on a traffic violation and discovered tools, electrical breakers and a large amount of copper wire in that suspect's vehicle, police said. At the time, Glendora PD could not reveal if they knew of any accomplices first suspect Christopher Girard might have had.

Who said he's guilty? They are just reporting he was arrested, because he was LINKED to the thefts (like, maybe had the stolen wire in his trunk? fingerprints? surveillance video?)

Sounds like much more than a traffic infraction for sure, Janek! :-)
