GHS Marching Band Wins Spot in 2014 Rose Parade

For the seventh time in the school’s history, Glendora High School’s Tartan Band and Pageantry took top honors in the L.A. County Fair’s 10th annual High School Marching Band Parade Competition Sept. 28.

Glendora High School beat out 36 high schools in the county to take the grand prize, winning $5,000 and a spot to march in the 2014 Tournament of Roses Parade. The last time Glendora High School took home the grand prize was 2008.

Chino High School 77th Cavalry took second place, while the Riverside Kingsmen Band and Color Guard received third place.

Judges from the Tournament of Roses chose the winner, basing their criteria on who would best represent Los Angeles County in the Rose Parade on New Year’s Day 2014.

Glendora High School Band Booster Club President Robert Lee said he was thrilled with the band’s win.

“The other finalists, Chino and Riverside King High School, were very good bands,” said Lee, whose son plays sousaphone. “The next 15 months are going to be a whirlwind of activities.”
