Citrus to Reexamine District Boundaries
The once-a-decade forum to be held Tuesday in Louis E. Zellers building on the Citrus College campus.
Every ten years, Citrus College goes through the process of reexamining its representative districts for the Citrus Community College District Board of Trustees, and Tuesday marks this decade’s occasion. The public is invited to come to provide input at the event, which will be held at 6 p.m. in the Louis E. Zellers building.
The Citrus Community College District comprises five districts, each one more or less representative of one town near the campus: Glendora, Azusa, Claremont, Duarte, and Monrovia. One representative is elected to the Board of Trustees from each district.
The reason for the Public Redistricting Forum is because of the mandate to have each district approximately the same size. Every ten years, federal census data is looked at, in conjunction with reexamining the districts, in order to see what changes can be made to district boundaries to maintain a balance.
“We’re all finding out together,” said Executive Assistant of the Superintendent and President’s Office Christine Link. “We’re not really sure what the data is going to say. But ten years ago we did change the boundaries.”
The public event will be co-hosted by the Board of Trustees and Superintendent Geraldine M. Perri, giving the public an opportunity to have input in boundary decisions. Conversely, The Community College League of California and Redistricting Partners is facilitating the forum.
