Cal Poly Pomona Warning of Possible TB Case

A Cal Poly Pomona student may have been infected with tuberculosis, according to university officials.

Public health officials reported the possible infection to the university, according to a news release.  The case has not been confirmed active but as a precaution, Cal Poly Pomona recommends that those who may have had close contact with the student get a skin test for TB.

The university is not releasing the student's name due to privacy concerns, but Cal Poly Pomona health officials have found around 375 students ad 20 faculty and staff who may have had contact repeatedly with the student, authorities said.

The male student did not live on campus, officials said. He took classes in physics, engineering, computer science, and ethnic and women's studies during the fall and winter quarters.  He has withdrawn from all of his classes this quarter while he receives treatment. His prognosis is good, officials said.

The university sent email notifications to each of the individuals who had contact with the student by 10 a.m. today.  Cal Poly also is offering free TB testing through Student Health Services.  Priority is going to those who have had direct contact with the student. Faculty and staff can see their regular health care provider for testing.
