Avoid the 100, Glendora Police Warn of St. Patty’s Day Drunk Driving
Increased police patrols planned throughout the San Gabriel Valley.
As with every impending holiday that has the potential to draw crowds of inebriated revelers, the Glendora Police Department and the Avoid the 100 Los Angeles Country DUI Task Force is upping their patrols in an effort to nab drunk drivers on St. Patrick's Day.
The DUI-prevention task force will deploy additional DUI Roving Saturation Patrols into various L.A. County cities on March 17, a day for wearing green and parties at the local pub.
According to a press statement, the patrol units will be focusing on areas with high incidents of DUI collisions and arrests.
“We want drunk drivers to know we’re out there,” said Community Service officer and Avoid 100 DUI Task Force coordinator Wendy Brewer, adding that the increased presence of police would deter motorists from getting behind the wheel while impaired.
The Glendora Police Department is one of 100 law enforcement agencies across Los Angeles County participating in this campaign. The Avoid the 100 DUI Campaign is funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
The task force has been involved in DUI prevention campaigns throughout the holiday season, as well as Super Bowl Sunday.
“Whether you are meeting a few friends at the local pub after work or attending a social gathering, if you plan on drinking, never drive while impaired – and never let your friends drive if you think they are impaired,” Glendora Police Chief Rob Castro said in a press statement.
Additional holiday drunk driving-prevention campaigns are planned for Cinco de Mayo and Memorial Day Weekend.
